I'm not a big fan of the cold weather. As a photographer, however, I find great joy in making images of the winter. Even if that's 30,000 feet above ground.
The image of the midwest that I shot as part of my "New York to LA" series is one of my favorites. The blue light on the snow covered landscape created a surreal scene that only happens in the dead of winter. I was lucky to capture that image because as soon as I clicked the shutter, our flight path took us into thick cloud cover and that landscape was gone forever.
