The World Cup in Brazil is in full swing and the crown jewel of all soccer stadiums is of course the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro. It is also synonymous with the Maracanzo - Brazil's defeat in the 1950 World Cup by the tiny country Uruguay that dealt a knockout blow to Brazil's psyche and transformed a simple soccer match into national history.

Who knows what the Maracana has in store for Brazil this World Cup, but one thing is for sure, the stadium will be witness to history yet once more. Below are some images of the iconic stadium when I last visited "Rio".
