I will admit I couldn't take the dreary winter weather in New York any longer. So when an opportunity came up to travel to India, I just couldn't resist.
After a long but enjoyable 18 hour flight, I was on my way to the small town of Santiniketan in the eastern state of Bengal. Made famous by poet and Nobel laureate Tagore, the celebration of Basanta Utsav (Spring Festival) still continues on the on the grounds of the university that he founded. The day starts early in the morning with students dressed up in festive attire as they pay homage to Tagore's legacy, which eventually gives way to a full blown celebration of the arrival of spring as a multitude of colors take over the festival grounds.
It is easy to get lost in the fervor of this spectacle but I found the best moments were those that usually go unnoticed.
